Boston College, Lyons Hall
Client: Boston College
Location: Boston, MA
Size: 5,000 SF
Located on Boston College’s main campus, Lyons Hall is a prominent academic and administrative building. To ensure a long and useful service life for the 1951 Collegiate Gothic building, Boston College hired studioMLA Architects to increase accessibility and usability. The design team worked carefully to integrate modern upgrades with the original architecture.
The renovations were completed in phases to minimize disruption. Phase I focused on upgrades to the stairs, including the handrails, treads, and lighting. Phase II focused on the designing and improving restroom facilities by creatively maximizing capacity and incorporating sensor-activated appliances to reduce contact. Phase 3 focused on enhancing the corridors.
