studioMLA Architects’ Brookline Teen Center Project Wins 3 Design Awards!
The Brookline Teen Center design, completed in 2013, was recognized with a Boston Society of Architects’ Award for Design Excellence at the BSA Design Awards Gala on January 29th at the Hotel Intercontinental in Boston. In Providence, RI, the project garnered the American Institute of Architects’ New England People’s Choice Award, chosen from among 75 finalists. And thirdly, it will receive the Eagle Award, the highest distinction awarded by the Association of Builders and Contractors in November.
This innovative adaptive reuse project is in line for LEED certification and has become an important part of the Brookline community. Described by teens as “straight up awesome” and “better than being at home” the project was featured this year in the Boston Design Week and hosts a wide range of activities for middle and high school students. Features include a café that hosts frequent open mike nights, a gymnasium, fitness center, state-of-the-art recording studio, and two lanes of candlepin bowling.
Congratulations to the whole project team, which included Kaplan Construction, Project Managers Barbara Stein and Kathleen Scanlon, RSE Engineering, and Consulting Architects GMI Inc.
