SAS Institute Expansion
studioMLA Architects worked with SAS Institute to double the size of their existing childcare center. Site constraints required new construction rather than extending the existing building.
Renewable materials combined with masonry brick cladding bridge the new and old, and pair well with the natural playground. Inside, the center provides classroom spaces for ages K-5 and a shared art and science lab, cafeteria, movie room, and a double-height gross motor skills space that has improved the center’s flexibility during severe weather days. Aloft area contains administration spaces with birds-eye views of the common spaces below.
studioMLA, in collaboration with Bright Horizons, provided programming, conceptual, and schematic design services. A local architect provided working drawings and construction coordination.
