Little School at Lincoln School

Client: Lincoln School
Location: Providence, RI
Size: 7,000 SF

Rooted in Quaker principles and dedicated to a dynamic education for girls, the K-12 Lincoln School located in Providence, RI, has a highly respected early education program. This project provides additional capacity and creates indoor and outdoor spaces fully aligned with the Reggio-Emilia-influenced curriculum and Quaker values. At site scale, the LEED® Gold certified, net-zero energy project improves the campus connection to the neighborhood, supports the school curriculum with biophilic interventions, and is incredibly energy efficient. The architecture reflects Quaker simplicity with light, sensory-rich, indoor and outdoor spaces. This sustainable design project has become a model for the state of Rhode Island.

The Little School is a small but mighty example of the integration of building and landscape design with Lincoln’s Reggio Emilia-influenced approach. The expansion created a dedicated home for toddlers to 3-year-old students. This state-of-the-art early childhood center features innovative classrooms, a working space for Little School faculty and staff, and a dedicated outdoor natural play space. It was designed to promote a connection with nature, and with sustainability and LEED® accreditation in mind.
