Epiphany Early Learning and Community Center
Founded in 1997, Epiphany School is an independent school for children of economically disadvantaged families in Boston. Epiphany serves approximately 90 students in grades 5-8 and empowers hundreds of young adults in their Graduate Support Program.
Looking to expand their campus and grow their program to support younger children, Epiphany purchased a nearby property with a historically significant building: the former Industrial School for Girls (ISG). studioMLA Architects worked closely with the Boston Landmarks Commission and the Boston Planning and Development Agency to design a new building that feels continuous with the residential neighborhood and respects the significance of the existing historic brick structure.
The site features housing for 25 teaching fellows and space for Epiphany’s Graduate Support Center where teens and young adults can do homework and speak with college and career counselors. It also includes a recently opened Early Learning Center, a half-court gym, workout room, shower, teaching kitchen, housing for 12 additional Teaching Fellows, and laundry facilities. In addition, it provides much-needed meeting rooms and flexible workspace for school administration and key program partners such as Codman Square Health Center and Room to Grow. The site also supports a robust garden-to-table program including a greenhouse.
