Nurtury Learning Lab Awarded Prestigious LEED® Green Building Certification

Nurtury Learning Lab has been awarded LEED® Gold certification. The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes, and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained, and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

The Nurtury Learning Lab is a groundbreaking new model for social service delivery and community outreach with a state-of-the-art early education center at its core. As the center of a network of services ranging from early education and care and family engagement to health care referrals, the Learning Lab has become an integral part of the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments – Bromley Heath community and its surrounding neighborhoods. While designed to accommodate a wide range of community services, the anchor for the project is the early education and care program.

The Nurtury Learning Lab includes a 22,400 square foot building that supports classrooms and outdoor natural play for 175 infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Early education classrooms combined with a natural playground host a greenhouse, abundant vegetation, and gardens. The exterior brick, natural cedar, and glass create an open, welcoming, and distinctive environment revealing a warm and vibrant interior that promotes sustainability and energy efficiency.

“The work of innovative building projects such as Nurtury Learning Lab is a fundamental driving force in transforming the way buildings are built, designed, and operated,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president, and CEO, USGBC. “Buildings that achieve LEED certification are lowering carbon emissions, creating a healthier environment, and reducing operating costs while prioritizing sustainable practices. Because of Nurtury Learning Lab, we are increasing the number of green buildings and getting closer to USGBC’s goal to outpace conventional buildings, while being environmentally and socially responsible and improving the quality of life for generations to come.”
