This 8,000sf single story addition to the Navy's existing youth center on base was a well needed space increase to their program. Four large classrooms organized around a central service core form a simple and efficient parti. A ramping connector bridges the old with the new, providing an accessible route down to existing grades. Sustainable design elements such as south facing light shelves, solar roof panels, and a rainwater collection cistern combine to increase overall building efficiency and help keep the carbon footprint to a minimum. Studio MLA is responsible up through design development while BBIX will serve as the Architect of record.
