The Lincoln School

Location: Providence, Rhode Island

The sustainable net-zero Little School expansion opened its doors for 2020-2021 school year. The new 4,700 SF space is a small but mighty example of the integration of building and landscape design with Lincoln’s Reggio Emilia-influenced approach.

The Little School expansion created a dedicated home for toddlers to 3-year-old students and was designed to emphasize the joy of learning through a Reggio-Emilia-inspired approach. This state-of-the-art early childhood center features innovative classrooms, working space for Little School faculty and staff, and a dedicated outdoor natural play space. It was designed to promote a connection with nature, and with sustainability and LEED accreditation in mind.

This project first of two phases of the Lincoln School’s Building Beginnings campaign, dedicated to expanding and enhancing their Little and Lower schools. The second phase will enhance the existing Lower School building. It will transform the entrance of the Lower School into a library and learning center with an emphasis on flexible, student-centered community space. Externally, the facade of the Lower School will be redesigned into a fresh, modern, welcoming entrance to match the best-in-class learning that takes place inside.
