Boston Community Pediatrics

Location: Boston, MA
Size: 2,000 SF

Boston Community Pediatrics (BCP) is the first nonprofit private pediatric practice in Boston, working to bring equitable pediatric healthcare to the area. studioMLA Architects worked with this groundbreaking organization to help them make their vision a reality. Due to the unique project parameters, the design team worked directly with the founder and contractor to make decisions in real-time based on the tight time frame. Designing a space for a new model healthcare clinic required attention to detail and respect for and understanding the client’s needs.

Located in an old timber and masonry building in Boston’s South End, the design team got creative with the layout to fit an ambitious program. The layout includes clinical space, administrative offices, and a kitchen all into an extremely small space. Given the medical use, the design features light and bright finishes to highlight cleanliness. Accents of exposed existing timber and masonry construction on exterior walls and at the ceiling bring an added warmth to the space. The clinic has been a welcome addition to the neighborhood since opening its doors at the end of 2020.
